There’s a long narrow closet off of our upstairs hallway. I’m not sure why it exists, but it’s been wasted space since we moved in. There used to be a door on it, but we removed it when we knocked out the attic stairs that were near it to make the upstairs hallway more open and bright.
It has a small doorway to the attic crawl space over the kitchen, and it had a leak from a roofing issue by the chimney when we bought the house. The rehab contactor fixed the leak, tossed some mud up, and it’s sat vacant minus a litterbox for the past 7 years.
I decided to use it as storage for winter gear and blankets. Items I’d rather not have in a damp basement, but items we don’t need every day.
The flooring was shot and crooked, so we bought some vinyl planks and tossed some paint. I wanted this to be easy and just buy a shelving unit to put in there, but it was too narrow, so we we had to DIY.
Some Dark Walnut stain and wipe on poly, and now I have a few shelves! I’m currently sorting through some winter gear and buying containers so I can utilize the new space!
