The daffodils and tulips have bloomed. The apple tree is flowering. The sun is shining (between the rain showers because it’s Ohio).
That means it’s almost time to clean up the woodburner and “pack it up” until the Fall. Then I hear a flutter. And then our gray cat Tom comes to investigate….

That’s right, a bird has found its way into the chimney. Ugh! It’s not the first time, and it probably won’t be the last until we actually get a chimney cap installed.
I pulled the insert as far out as I could and eventually the little starling flew out, and smacked right into the back door.

The dogs and cats gave chase, but as soon as I made it to the hallway they all parted ways to watch me take on this beast that had entered their home and threatened their lives. Our black cat Raven got a smell in.

The little dude had a spot of blood on the beak, probably from smacking the door, but outside we went and it gave a squawk of thanks (or cussed me out) as it soared away.
