One of the first rooms we did when we moved into the house was the spare bedroom. We had sold our house and moved into tiny barn in October of 2015, and we had a few months of limbo while we waited to see if our loaning bank, the bank that owned the house, and the inspection people could agree on everything so we could purchase our current house. In December, things were finalized, but seeing as how it had been a foreclosure and sat vacant for a few years, our loan was a rehab loan and we had to get things fixed enough (like plumbing and heat) before we could move in.
In March of 2016, we scrambled as the contractors were finished with what they could do with the loan. My grandparents were due to visit because of the March birthdays in the family. We ended up with Sherwin Williams Cardboard for the wall, and as you can see, a bed and bookcases that took up most of the room. It was dark and unusable for anything except housing guests. The bed frequently became a home for items that came out of the car, or winter coats.
I wanted to brighten things up, bring in nature and have more of a multipurpose space. We bought a Murphy Bed, repainted the room, made hexagon shelves, hung plants, put in a ceiling fan and started to organize a bit. It’s still a catch all for girl scout stuff, and it’s nowhere near finished, but it’s a start.
Here’s a quick video tour with an updated shroomy mirror!
Obviously there is a lot more decor I would like to add, and a lot more organizing to do. We are thinking about a folding desk mounted to the wall under the TV. I want to get LED strip lights to put behind the plant stands to try and keep the plants from dying (I’m good at killing plants).
