We live in an old farmhouse. It’s drafty, it’s dusty, and it’s in a consistent state of renovations. That being said, our laundry room was becoming a cluttered catch-all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally the laundry room was closed off from the kitchen, and there was an entrance from the hallway, but the hallway is so narrow, and we had contractors in as part of our rehab loan taking out the drop ceiling in the kitchen after we purchased the house, that we discovered it was quite easy to just open the room to the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a small space, with a side closet area, so we tossed a shelf and closet rod in, and it’s been the home of coats we don’t wear, bee suits, hats and gloves, garden seeds, random summer toys, shoes, and anything else that seems to not have a home. The problem is that dust settles easy around here, and we just weren’t using things regularly enough to keep that dust from settling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, it just always looked like a cluttered mess. So in January, I started tearing it apart. It’s a slow process, because we do staining and painting in the shop, and it costs money to keep it warm down there, so we’ve really only been using the warmer winter days to do things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it’s open to the kitchen (that is still a work in progress as well), we had to decide on a wall colour. Our cabinets are stained grey, but our cabinets are no longer in stock, so the cabinets we are installing in the laundry room are a little different, so they will get painted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our spare bedroom<\/a> makeover was a light orange mushroom vibe, and I wanted that to spill over slightly since the spare bedroom is across the hall from our large kitchen opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest issue, is I can’t decide on an exact color. I had a darker yellowish orange in mind and a darkish green for the cabinets. After I had the hubby decide the yellow shade, which is brighter than when I had first started mulling over colors, we switched to a teal for the cabinets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are staining some pine boards a dark walnut to create a shelf over the back of the washer and dryer. We are currently in the process of painting the cabinets, then I will need to figure out wall accessories for more organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a slow process that has been made slower not only because the hubby and kiddos #1 and #2 are currently in ground school (aviation), but Girl Scout cookie season is here and booths will start this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
